Nearly 100 horses roam the Tonto National Forest and have been seen in various parts of the wilderness and recreational areas.

This map of the lower Salt River and Tonto National Forest areas shows the general locations of horse sightings and incidents: Green pins are recreational areas and locations where the horses are commonly found, while the red pin and highlighted route shows where horses have been hit by vehicles or found dead.

Drivers and tourists should exercise caution in these areas and respect the horses seen at any recreational areas.
